Military Order of the Devil Dogs

The Honor Fraternity of the Marine Corps League

About the Military Order of the Devil Dogs

The Military Order of the Devil Dogs (MODD) is the honor fraternity of the Marine Corps League. The name "Devil Dogs" (Teufelshunde) was a nickname given to U.S. Marines by German soldiers during World War I, a testament to the ferocity and tenacity of the Marines in battle.

Membership in the MODD is by invitation only, extended to members of the Marine Corps League who have demonstrated outstanding service to the League, the Marine Corps, and their community.

The MODD is organized into "Packs" at the local level, corresponding to Marine Corps League detachments. Members hold ranks within the order, from "Pup" through the various officer positions.

History of the Name

"Teufelshunde" — Devil Dogs. During the Battle of Belleau Wood in June 1918, U.S. Marines fought with such ferocity that German soldiers reportedly called them "Teufelshunde" — Devil Dogs. The Marines wore this name as a badge of honor, and it has been associated with the Marine Corps ever since.
